Highlands County Ad Valorem Tax Abatement

On April 13, 2010, the Board authorized a referendum to be on the ballot during the regular election held August 24, 2010, that was subsequently approved by the voters, which authorizes the Board to grant Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemptions to qualifying new businesses relocating to Highlands County and to qualifying expansions of existing businesses already situated in Highlands County. On May 17, 2011 the Board adopted a Resolution establishing the Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemption Program for providing exemptions from certain Ad Valorem taxation for certain new businesses and expansions of existing businesses, as well as establishing procedures and guidelines for the submission of applications for the Board's consideration of such exemptions. The Program was a result of the combined efforts of the Industrial Development Authority's (IDA) Tax Abatement Criteria Committee and County Staff.
